After spending his childhood in the Silicon Valley, Stephen returned to Australia to start high school where he quickly found that his American sensibilities didn’t fit in with his Australian peers. This as well as his love of music led him to discover a home in Adelaide’s burgeoning punk music scene where he ultimately joined bands and toured the country throughout his youth. A love of the moving image led him to make the transition between music and film, directing a slew of music videos for notable Australian bands and picking up South Australia's Emerging Filmmaker of the Year award in 2014.

After working as Jennifer Kent's directors assistant on acclaimed feature films The Babadook (2014) & The Nightingale (2018) Stephen went on to direct his first short film Hard Rubbish (2020) which premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival & Sydney’s Flickerfest. Commercially he has directed for a growing list of agencies, working for clients such as UniSuper, SA Tourism, San Remo and The SES; as well as traveling all over the developing world shooting documentaries for leading non-profit organisations.

Developing his debut feature film will be Stephen's main focus looking ahead as he continues to challenge himself as a director.
