Stephen Packer is an award-winning Australian writer/director working in narrative and commercial. Named early in his career as South Australia’s Emerging Filmmaker of the Year, Stephen’s short film Hard Rubbish premiered at Vancouver International Film Festival before continuing its circuit at Australia’s Academy Award qualifying festivals St Kilda and Flickerfest.

Commercially, he has directed campaigns for distinguished brands including UniSuper, San Remo, The SES and South Australia Tourism, the last of which earned him a gold ACS award for his striking cinematography.

Stephen developed his storytelling muscles shooting around the world for notable non-profit organisations including Salvation Army, Australian Volunteers International and Global Women’s Project, work which has taken him to more than 15 countries on five continents.

These projects have seen him document child labour in the granite mines of Bengaluru, work undercover to investigate sex trafficking in the red light districts of Greece and lend a voice to those working on the front line of a humanitarian disaster in the Rohingya Refugee Camps of Cox’s Bazar.

Stephen’s latest short film, Sick Day, is currently on the festival circuit and he is deep in development on his debut feature.

In his free time, Stephen can be found putting up shots at the closest basketball court - rain, hail or shine.
